Sort of wasted journey

Went to Livingston where we wandered round most of the sports shops looking for a pair of "New Balance" trainers, and believe it or not - impossible. Considering the size of the place and the choice of shops not one stocked the type we were looking for , so it will have to be Dalkeith.

Gave Wetherspoons a miss - bad decision - and eventually stopped for a cup of tea at Greggs "patio restaurant" near the Asda end, where the place looked like the Council yard, staff were dressed like bin men and the tea was cool and made with recycled dish water - obviously not looking for any Egon Ronay stars.

Seriously cackled by the time we got home so it was feet up and sit at peace reading for an hour or so, which was a bit of a luxury - accompanied by a proper cup of tea!!

Gave Beth a call in Yorkshire where she is still searching for a new job and a millionaire toy boy, but if she can get the millionaire she will not bother with the job!!

Later - a very nice bottle of "McPhersons Full 15" red wine to accompany my dinner and even later my neighbour Mike, who had repaired the lighting in the garage for me - tempted me with a very pleasant smoky Island malt.

Dan the man got a bit of an ear bashing later on, but he is a good listener, thanks.

So now it is off to Bonnyrigg, Musselburgh and Edinburgh for the day with options on either Prestonpans or Gorebridge tonight.

International call centre

Wed a.m., and having had a good sleep - or a reasonable one I am feeling a bit brighter.

made it to 720 last night where there was a full house, all seats had bums on them + incuding the extra chairs brought in.

E mails this morning from both India and australia - good to know that all are well. Caitlin sent a long letter with updates, and from India my friend russell has eventually got back intouch having been looking after an ill friend for some weeks.

Going to try and have a day off - ( at the shops according to Ann) before we get sorted for the weekend.

Nobodys child

Had wee sleeps and now feeling fine.

Left at 10.30 p.m. last night and went to The Mercat to hand in papers. Then into the Waverly Station to collect work to take south to Runcorn, where I arrrived at 4 a.m. having had a lovely stress free run down the A702; M74; and M6. The roads were quiet, it was a cold night and visibilty was excellent. I parked up, wrapped up well and like a vagrant fell asleep in the car, wakened once and then was up and about at 7.20 to go look for my contacts. Eventually found who I wanted and got what I was after so armed with a fresh pot of tea and a bacon sandwich I headed north again about 8.45 a.m. This time into the fray as the maniacs were out in force on the bottom four lane section of the road. I was doing about 80/85 in the 3rd lane and was being left standing by all sorts - just totally lunatic, however by the time I had passed the Blackpool motorway things calmed down and it was again a nice pleasant drive north to Glasgow.

In the office at Cowcaddens Fraser showed me a photograph which he had been given, it was of six girls posing before going out, and with their younger sister in front of them However, when the picture was enlarged and zoomed in there was clearly visible the head and face of another girl on the floor at the back of the line up looking through between the legs of two of the girls. BUT - according to Fraser and the girls, there had not been anyone else in the room and the face cannot be accounted for - very strange!!!

Eventually made it home via SAC at The Bush by 2 p.m. and have since had another couple of hours sleep and now feeling fit enough to head out to bonnyrigg (720) tonight - minus Sparky who is suffering from the side effects of his latest batch of holiday jabs.

Old Ianat Musselburgh had a great party with the family for his 80th so I will find out the gossip later in the week./

In the paper I was reading about how the Japanese have been trying to stop all sorts of imports in favour of their own brands. Seemingly they said that foreign skis could not be imported as Japanese snow was different and they would not work!!!f

Botany Bay's latest

A reliable source has reported the safe arrival of our latest batch of deportees to the land of Oz. Despite attempts to escape at Taiwan and being blown off course by the elements the prison plane landed in one bit at Brisbane - not as exciting as the American airline jet yesterday in Germany which was only saved by the skill of the pilot.

Our former companions were led by their clansfolk to local watering holes where they immediately returned to their beer drinking, which appears to take precedence over work!!

Rob would have been interested to read about the Polish cleaner who was caught copulating with a "Henry the Hoover"" during a nightshift cleaning job in Glasgow. I think at every time Chick tells me that the hoover is "fuc***d" I will have to reflect carefully on his meaning and perhaps check the CCTV to see if there is worthwhile footage for U tube.

As an update (Rob), there were either three or five incidents next door on Saturday night with tam R. being involved in at least one. They are now apparantly down to one canister of gas and one keg of Fosters !!

Heading out now ( 10.30 p.m.) fore a gentle 550 mile drive, have a good day / night wherever you are.

Births, Deaths and marriages

Birthday boy, Ian, in trhe middle was in the pub this morning when he announced that he was 80 years young, so we wich him another 80 years.

His friends, Rob and danny were keen to get him drunk to see what his family would say when he turned up a special party in Loanhead tonight. We hope he has a lovely time.

Jim the builder made it safely back after a long weekend in Paris with his wife which was a present from the family for his wedding anniverary.

So far he has denied misbehaving, but he did have a romantic cruise on the Seine, but had to take the wife as he could not escape. He went up the Eiffel Tower, but only as far as the 2nd stage and could not be bothered waiting on the lift. There is no truth in the story that he was shouting over the edge " What have you French done for us!!!" Told us that the French set fire to the Arc de Triumph each night as they cannot get the fire to burn all the time - his fact for the day was that the motorists are not insured if they drive round the Place as with ten lanes it is the most dangerous in France. Popped into the Louvre to see the Pyramid which features in the Da Vinci Code story. Was walking with a limp which he claims is gout but we think he is wearing french knickers which are too tight.

Kerrin arrived to take over and told me that her uncle had died suddenly at home this morning - and had been found by relatives, our condolances.

Still no word from down under of the safe arrival of Rob and Caitlin - so we are in a waiting mode.

Not sure whast janet has beeen doing but Brian says she was trying to get into Bloggere to add a comment but failed to do so. ( ask Glen).

Going for a nap as I am heading off late tonight for a pick up and then down to Runcorn for breakfast - hopefully the snow which we had last niight will stay away.

Sunday night and have just halted.

Playing catch up after a busy night and day.

Friday night with the shfts covered once again at Musselburgh and as usual Elaine, Tommy, Simon and co all did very well, thanks again.
I was able to pop into the Mercat to see one of the couples who frequent the place, Geoff and Wendy. He has just retired after thirty years working for British rail, and now has no idea what to do. There were only a small number present, but having had a big surprise party at his work on thursday he was quite happy. Made it home in time to get my feet up and sat and watched the second of the Jason Bourne movies.
Up sharp this morning as Graham wanted a hand in the Mercat, so I was there , supposedly for a couple of hours but left at 3 p.m to go to Musselburgh with their sunday sandwiches. Boys were in good form, Peas, Jess, Sami, Brian, Kenny, Dougie Mclean, big George, etc. As usual I was my usual cheery(not) self as they delight in winding me up. Glen the dog was mega happy at the delivery of food.
So Mrs. B. was not amused as this was my day off and on Mothers day she saw Graham for about 20 minutes as he came in grabbed his bags and then headed off to a Licensed Trade AGM in Elgin. It is snowing in that area but he made it in one piece.

Chris, Ailsa, Tam and Catherine are back from London having put Robbie and Caitlin on their plane to OZ - they had a good time, visited Lords Cricket Ground , and did some general sightseeing. Parting was as expected very sad and emotional, and as I write they will not be far from home. All being well we will get the "kangaroo has landed " message to let us know.

Sparky Mark was on the phone, he has issued a statement saying that he was at least twenty miles away when the tree fell on the roof of the garage ( see previous blog).

Edwardo has mailed from Argentina, says it is raining like he has never seen before, very frightening, but the locals are not bothered, just getting on with their BBQ's and drink. He is settling down and busy trying to get a new business up and running.

Andrea also been in touch, working hard, teaching at school and in a wee part time job in a golf/ country club.

I have a busy few days coming up between Musselburgh and with a run to Runcorn on Tuesday early a.m., so next weekend is not far away - how time flies. Could pose problems trying to get to my evening meetings as I will need time to recover.

Rat catcher commeth

Now 5.30 and I have just had Tam call off at The Sportsmans when he was supposed to start at 7 p.m. so it looks like my weekend is going to be goosed again if I cannot get any extra cover.

Earlier my "best man" Graeme Mackay (Rat catcher) of GM Pest Control came down to look in my loft to see what was creeping about last night. He thinks that it is a bird, probably a starling roosting at night, but has popped down some bait boxes and will have a look again in a couple of days.
We have been friends for about forty plus years and were married about a year apart, both the same age to within ten days.
