Squirrillious Fluffytailus ( not quite the latin for it)

They say that "the early bird catches the worm", however this morning it was, as many of you naturalists , or perhaps even nature lovers will have suspected, the culprit for dropping the bird feeder was this cheeky chappie, a member of the rodent family, "Sciuridae", which originates not from the Latin, but Greek word, SKIOUROS, meaning shadow tailed.

Mrs. B. who is currently M.I.A. along with Irish Christine will be apoplectic when she discovers that the agile grey chappie is stealing the birds food, bad enough big pigeon, who was ever so forlorn this morning, while the wee birds were at one stage swooping in to try and frighten it way.

It is a shame that they are such pests as they are interesting to watch as they tackle the many obstacles that we humans place in their way. The Red Squirrel has nearly disappeared from our landscape, its domain taken over by the "rodent".

It is a bit like the problem they are having with mink in the Highlands, where a major cull is now underway as the mink numbers have escalated to the stage that they are reducing the wild bird population, including grouse and pheasant by eating the eggs, chicks and killing the birds. But that is another story.
