Creaking at the joints.

Wed a.m. and it is hellish awful outside, rain battering off the roof, and that raw cold feeling.

Tuesday was a long day -with the morning spent sanding walls in the living room and ending up looking like I had turned grey all over - it took longer to clean up the mess. From there it was up and down ladders to get the ceiling emulsioned, just a hurry up job as I was going to work later.

Sparky Mark appeared hobbling due to having pulled a muscle in his back - so he was off for a massage to try and get straightend up.

Eventually got scrubbed up and headed for the Mercat where the staff were to be treated by my presence - have to say that, because I am not used to the bar layout or the new fangled tills so at the moment service is a bit slow!! And apart from that I was feeling my age and aching all over which was not conducive to speedy service.
Samantha having been on her feet all day had sore feet so she was off to put them in a bucket for a soak.
I managed to get the bottom bar sorted out on my own and later, while the football was on managed OK , assisted by the more agile Paddy who ran up and down the stairs for food service.
The football was exciting with a good result for Manchester United - just a pity the fans are going to have to travel to Moscow for the final.

Like Samantha by the time I finished my feet were also killing me so next time it will be practical, comfy footwear, and when I got home there was no problem sleeping.

On the road back last night, I was thinking that I had not heard from Big Simon for a week or so, must get back to the Sportsmans, given the chance- will have to see how today pans out and whether I end up on the road south tonight to Runcorn.

I see that my favourite (NOT) chancer, The Chancellor, doubtless aided by our beloved PM is about to shaft the motorist one again by changing the tax categories, a wee bit oc conniving he did through the back door.

Monday night - even more puggled

It has just taken ages to download these photos, anyway, now 8.45 p.m., again I have spent most of the day skimming walls, applying PVA bonding, etc, but we are getting there.
The decorator, Dougie arrived this morning to start and hang the paper - me having done all the leg work, however if we are to carry on at this rate we will still be doing doing this at x-mas.
Dougie brought with him the mega intelligent Cody - 10 year old Border Collie, who kept Ann on the go all day with his constant wanting to play - so she walked him several times untill they both fell asleep in the afternoon - just in time to give me and Dougie a bit peace. As you can see he is always ready and alert, but he does go a bit cross eyed when he touched his nose with his tongue - as do most folks.
My slippers are on their last legs, now held together with "Duck tape" and beginning to smell a bit after constant use. I always get the type with the hard soles so that I can wear them down the street when Ann hides my shoes!!
Was sent for the messages today so made the best of it by having a good blether to all and sundry, Sunbed Colin Smith and one of my former colleagues Eddie Anderson , now 74 yrs old - it was he who used to bring his alsation Dawn on the nightshift when I also took Goldie the labrador - that way no one would bother us when we were on patrol.
I had no problem getting petrol at the local BP garage, and they said they had been quiet - although Sommerfields were busier than usual - so they think that folks are shopping local rather than going to the big out of town Centres.
My trip to Runcorn has been postphoned for a couple of days, looks like a wed p.m. pick up, night run and return on Thursday - now just waiting on Fraser to give me a call.
No word from either the upside down folks or Edwardo in Argentina.
Tuesday , as Graham is away to Dundee for a Licensed trade doo I am getting christened with a backshift at The Mercat. - That's obviously after I have done some more work on these walls.

Sunday 27 April 2008

Sunday and still puggled

Well, as planned spent most of Saturday skimming the walls in the hall while Ann was out. We got ourselves ready for a taxi at 6.30 p.m. and weent of to the Race night at Bonnyrigg Lodge. There was a good turn out, around 100 and we eventually got the races under way at 8 p.m.
It was quite a slick operation this year and all races were run plus the big auction race by 10.30 p.m., and that was including the buffet. Avery well good night organised by big Ian Robertson - who was also celebrating his birthday , and at midnight it was his daughter's birthday.

I gave Sir Christopher money for the auction race, and we bought Horse No 2 which WON, so we split the winnings- this obviously made my night as I did not lose as much as expected. We had Ricky, Pamela, Mike Anderson, Sparky Mark, Grant ( photogenix) and wife Yvonne ( of serious bump on the head fame) , Sir Christopher, Ailsa (Miss Talk a lot), Ma Reid, Tam and Catherine at the table. Lots of folks from "Black Diamond" radio also there.

Graham appeared later on, on his way home, just in time to see me and Sir Chris win the last race. Disco finished at 1240 a.m. and we had a taxi waiting - £40 - yes, for the round trip, bloody daylight/ evening robbery, and not helped that the Roslin Glen is closed so the taxi has to go the long way round.

I hear that there was a good going barny in the Sportsmans last night with Gary, Paul Q, and even Kristen getting involved when three guys came in looking for Gary, so obviously the police had to be involved. AND have just spoken to the two Karens and Elaine tonioght and there was another barney this afternoon because someone put a Hibs song on the juke box when Celtibc weere playing - so half a dozen had a bit of a roll around - Police will not be amused at getting called twice in twenty our hours.

Up early and back to the walls again, this time with a sander so there was stoor everywhere, I was white / grey, just covered from head to toe, but eventually got the hall sanded down and after cleaning up emulsioned the ceilings.
Graham was in at The Mercat which was very busy with the Rangers V Celtic game and then the English Premier matches, I had to make do with listening to the radio.

Had my dinner, steak and a bottle of red wine so as usual - and also because I was knackered I had a wee snooze - anyway now up and about and probably intime to go to bed before I start all over again in the morning.

Saturday 26 April 2008

Horrible morning

This could have been another douvet day - shocking outside, pouring with rain and blowing a gale, but need to get on . I have bought some tubs of stuff to skim the walls - so this will be an adventure.

Friday - spent the morning working in the hall - then off to Homebase, cash and carry and into The Mercat. Ended up washing down walls and scrubbing in there to pass time before I changed and went to my meeting at Rifle Chapter. that turned out to be a bit of a disaster and embarrassment for their members due to someone not doing their job - we felt kind of sorry for them. Dinner was haggis neeps and tatties, but the haggis was from an Aberdeen butchers and I did not like it very much.
There were five Norwegian Masons present, very smart in their evening suits and smart regalia, doing a five day tour. One of them had had his case and regalia stolen from the bar area of the Mount Royal Hotel on Thursday night - not much use to anyone other than the owner.
Andy McKeen was given Honorary Membership, well done - lan Black was to recieve it as well but he has still not recovered from his last fall.

Spoke to Kristen who has been busy painting in the Sportsmans, thanks to Sami Caine, just a pity that Big George and Lenny are still coming the Tattie, however, time is on my side!!!! Some folks do not have much time for chancers and T leaves.

Getting ready for Prague, we have nice new shirts to put on a corporate image, and three trips arranged to breweries !!!
Back to my walls - and out to the Race night at the Lodge tonight.

Friday 25 April 2008

What happened to Thursday?

Friday a.m. - just a wee bit tired !!
Regards to William/ Sandra - Andrea, Tam and Joanne and Wee Michelle ( well done with the driving theory).

Thursday night Graham sent a message to say i was on a training course for the pub yesterday morning - first I knew . So I cancelled my own stuff and headed in there on the bike to get through the early traffic. Turned out I should have had a work book and been studying for the past couple of weeks - but what the hell. Anyway , to cut a long story short, listened to the lectures read the book work before, during and at tea breaks and then sat the exam, using the pot luck / guesswork process , which is obviously not best practice, so now I have to wait and see.

Had to head home, get changed and was back at Loanhead by 5 p.m. to await a coach to go to Port Glasgow. In the process I met Joe Pia who owns the chip shop in Loanhead and who I have known for over 40 years, so we had a bit natter, he still uses our phrase " Ah !! Stuartie - Bastardo carribinierrie!! from my days in the Polis.

Bus came, full of Masons from Dunbar, North Berwick, Prestonpans, Dalkeith, etc. and we headed west on the M8 getting caught up in the traffic going to Ibrox for the Rangers game so the driver took a massive detour via East Kilbride and Paisley to miss Glasgow and we eventually got there at 8 p.m. Had a good meeting of the RA , nice dinner afterwards with one or two small drinks and left again at 12.30 a.m. with me getting dropped off at Loanhead at 1.50 a.m. in time to get a Nighthawk bus home -

Needed a bit of a long lie, now got some - more decorating- to do, then to cash and carry and then back out for yet another meeting tonight. Not sure what will happen if this proposed petrol strike goes ahead, as I have to get another Runcorn run organised for next week.

Wednesday 23 April 2008

What a hectic life.

The answer to this mornings Q. was - Decorating, but very slowly as I was rather delicate till late afternoon.

This short tale is in lieu of Thursday as it now looks as though i am going to be busy all day.

I was told this afternoon that I have to attend a training course in Edinburgh on Thursday - all day - which has scuppered my other prearranged appointments. Anyway looks like needs must. Then i need to get home at the toot - changed and back to Loanhead for 5.15 p.m. to join up with a crowd heading to Port Glasgow, Greenock for a RA meeting - so that will be another late night!!

Sparky arrived in this evening , said he brought me up the road at 1 a.m. this morning - just as we were about to drink his red wine after finishing off the whisky.

early to bed - early to rise, etc - just plain knackered.

A wee bit hung over

It is just as well that iIdo not have to drive today or go to work - because I am certainly not in any fit state to do so.

Struggling a bit to remember what happened to Tuesday - anyway took off on the motor bike to go to the hospital where I saw my neurologist . Even he did not have my notes so we could not get round to a solution for my ongoing troubles. But he is writing to my GP and is going to have a wee chat to him on the phone and try and come up with a new course of action.

Went on to Leith and visited Andy KP's new shop, "Planet Poland" designed as a resource centre for local businesses who want to use Polish workers. Nice office, but unfortunately it seems that the locals have got the wrong idea already and are planning on doing the place over.
Next to Scott Cuppola's for lights, etc, the boy on the counter was impressed when I used the camera to show him what I needed - I took a photo on high magnification and then when I enlarged it, it was perfect for getting all the details. Up to The Mercat Bar where it was a case of "let there be light" - and the staff could see in all the previously dark corners.

Home to carry on with - yes - preparing walls once again.

Off to Bonnyrigg at 6.15 for my final RA meeting of 500 Laird o Cockpen, super turn out with 67 present, 29 being in the Provincial deputation, the team was first class , however I just froze, mind went blank and I think I was just terrible. Many were very kind and appreciated my ad libbing which was certainly a bit different to the ritual book. The only person who did not know any better was Drew McAlpine the candidate.
Maurice Wilson appeared which was nice of him, and he like the photo we had taken on Friday night at Roslynn 606.
Mrs B. did a wonderful job in the kitchen and all enjoyed their soup and sandwiches.

I was last out as I had to lock up , but in the waiting period managed to sample several glasses of the dreaded "John Barlycorn" hence the rather delicate state I am in at present - only consolation being that several others have to be in the same state !!

On the wider front , wee Michelle is causing havoc on the roads, and has managed to persuade her dad to let her drive his van- probably with sandbags tied on each corner.

Kirsten also had a long night on Monday, spending most of it till 5 a.m. painting in the Sportsmans.

Graham was off to his wine club meeting last night while Sir Christopher headed north to Perth. In the meantime one of the new chefs failed to turn up for work so Lady Claire was summoned from her game of pitch and putt to help feed the hungry hoards who had descended on The Mercat to watch the football.

So now I have two options - go back to bed - or continue decorating!! I wonder ------------

Monday 21 April 2008

Not enough hours, etc.

Monday night - and a bit weary.
Went into the Mercat last night at 8.30 p.m. and did some restorative work in the kitchen with my Polyfilla and then paint brush till 2.15 a.m. Sir Christopher was able to assist by fixing the bar lights , and tidying up after me as I am a bit of a messy worker - get the job done but take as long to clean up.

Popped into SAC at the Bush and then Pentland Science Park on the way home so the guards were pleased to have another person to breakm up their night.

A.M. today - up and off to Bathgate where Mrs. B. went to visit her pal, Sheena, who is also off work at the moment - I hid in the conservatory drinking tea and eating buttered croissants whilst doing a bit of catch up reading - better than getting the ares roasted listening to that pair.

On the way home went to Bookers agin - this time for us - BUT guess what - yes, The Mercat were agian in need of supplies , so I ended up back in Edinburgh where I hasd a nice cuppa made by the very pleasant Ms Sam. Her pal, Kerrina, has now left heading for Turkey I think en-route home to OZ.
We hear that Cookie is still somewhere in Europe.

The radio and press are a bit of a joke - main headlines, and features on the proposed strike at Grangemouth petro chemical works and petrol shortages BUT we are not supposed to panic buy!! the Government are taking action - no doubt they will want to issue ration books or just hike the bloody prices up even further using this as an excuse - having said that what about the conspiracy theory that they have orchestrated the whole thing just to hike up the prices to the threatened £1.50 per ltr. I honestly think that Gordon Brown P.M. and Mr. Alistair Darling are anything but.

Received a comment from "Zololkis" a couple of days ago - which I did not open but on the net there are umpteen references to this guy who is a notorious spammer who screws up folks systems - just what kind of drongos are these folks.

No recent news from Oz but I know they are still alive and kicking as Rob has been keeping up with the blog.

Just had a word with Princess Kerrin at the Sportsmans, Quiz night and they are busy. Jackie McNamara a bit under the weather having been at the professional Footballers dinner last night and still topped up.

Anyway I still have lots to do before tomorrow, hospital a.m. and Provincial Visitation to 500 Laird O'Cockpen at night - so the little bum cheeks are twitching.

Not enough hours , etc.

Sparky Mark @ Captian Chaos

The missing photo of our hero getting in some private practice. He starts back at work on Monday but is not sure yet where his next natural / unnatural disaster will be !!

Been and back again

Headed for Bonnyrigg but went to collect Sparky en route - guess what, he was still in his bed (at 1.20 p.m.) but haveing been wakened he made it to the car in quick time - although in a bit of a state, having been out on the skite most of the night, apparantly led astray by others !!

Not the greatest of trun outs for the RA meeting but the business was conducted properly.
Heading home we stopped at Thornton Farm, Rosewell where "Riding for the Disabled Association" have a local base, to see what help they might benefit from. Met a couple of the young volunteers who were busy feeding the ponies.

Being in the adventurous mood we took off on a dirt track up to Shewington Farm to try and get a look at the latest open cast mine being operated in the area by Scottish Coal - a rather bumpy ride, and not realy for a family saloon car. BUT the hole in the ground was big. This whople area used have lots of small drift mines going into the cvarious seams, but now they just rip off the top coverings to expose the shallow seams.

Rangers FC made very hard work of beating St. Johnston in the Scottish Cup semi final - just a shame someone had to lose because Rangers were not that good today.

Have not heard much from the Sportsmans Bar, although we met one of the guys last nigth at The Standing Order heading home from Ayr Races, and I had a quick call from Sami Caine this afternoon.

Off to do some odd jobs in The Mercat now - only time to get peace is when it is shut.

Fair trockled ( tired)

Sunday -

P.m. on Saturday we went to the K.T.'s at Dalkeith where there was a good turn out for the Installation , however we were unable to stay for the meal afterwards as we had to leave as The Mercat were keen to get the supplies in the boot of the car. BUT on the way to the car we were intrigued with the Inscription of the Old Tollbooth Hall , formerly St Mary's Church in the High Street, Dalkeith , which dates back to 1648.
We headed up to Straiton and to Costco (again), and from there , having passed it we turned round and made a quick visit to Old Pentland Cemetery which dates back to the 1600's. The old Watch House still stands where the families used to stay untill the remains of their relatives were safely buried. This grave yard has a history of Grave robbers, one who was caught trying to enter the City Gates of Edinburgh with the body of a child he had stolen. The mob got him and he "kind of expired".
We saw one grave dated 1624 (see photos) the place is very interesting and worth a quick visit.

Into The Mercat where we were fed and watered and havinving left Sparky to fend for himself I went to The Stranding Order to retrieve Ann and Irish Christine. They had had a good day, visited the Royal Scottish Museum in Chambers Street and went to see the special exhibition on Scottish Silver. Archie of S.O. had treated them to a nice sweet so add that to the wine and they were content.

A.M. today - yet another run to Bookers to stock up , and on arrival found The Mercat to be very busy - several large Stag parties in for breakfast and in varying states of sobriety and recovery.
Off now to Bonnyrigg for a RA meeting - again and set up for Tuesday night.

Saturday 19 April 2008

Some lazy B's

Just a couple of gripes - not like me!! Heading to Loanhead this morning and while held up at roadworks on the A701 at Nivensknowe spotted two idle types sitting in their van - obviously on overtime and screwing the system.
Stopped to let Ann run into Sainsburys to get the porridge Oats and was itting opposte the disabled parking bays, which had a nice big sign up - along came two cars, onw with a young female who parked and ran off in to the store, and the other with the attached couple who blatantly took up the spaces despite being fit and healthy.
Heading off, again with Sparky, to dalkeith to ameeting of the K.T.s King David of Ballentraddoch for their installation of office bearers, and later into The Mercat where if I am unlucky I will find Ann and Irish Christine who are having a day out in town..

Masonic treat

Mark and I made it to Rosslyn St Clair 606 to find that it was to be a 1st Degree worked by reigning masters with a few guests !!. Turned out the the Depute Grand Master Charles Ian Woolridge Gordon (yes same person who I went to India with as he also hold the rank of 1st principle of the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland), accompanied by Maurice Wilson, Grand Librarian ( was at the 151 dance with us couple of weeks ago and at No. 97 last week), the Grand Superintendent of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Midlothian with his entourage - and all the reigning Masters of the Province of Midlothian.

It was an excellent degree and obviously something very special for the candidate.

I was able to have a blether to "The Boss" after the meeting , he has still not given up on his quick ciggy whenever he can - he was doing well and liked the suggestion that he had a part time job for a bit of beer money .

Friday 18 April 2008

Back to winter again - so much for spring.

Late night last night as we prepared for this mornings meeting in Edinburgh with the Council and UNISON.

Sparky Mark was in to give us a run down on his trip to Peru and the walk along the Inca Trail - sounded just wonderful and he had a marvellous time with a well organised programme and nice group of companions. It was a pretty strenuous time but he did have a 73 year old lady in the party who managed the trail. Good on her.

Headed to town a.m. to drop Ann off for her meeting and it took an hour to get into the High Street due to stupid poorly managed road works and the volume of traffic.

I parked up in Hollyrood Park to wait on Ann , reading my wee red book, and watching the world go by - it was raining cats and dogs so I only managed two photos one of the Radiacal Road which runs round the base of the Crags and the other of the massive visitor centre next to the Scottish Parliament building and on the site of the old Hollyrood Brewery.

Anyway a fairly constructive meeting took place with Watty W. doing marvellously well, he is correctly described as being a "rottweiller", stands no nonsense and cuts straight to the point - which is also Ann's style. Lots were said, more than I can say at the moment, but be assured not many points were missed and I am sure that the "ripples" will be widespread.
Sparky Mark appeared to take of my radiators to allow me to get on with finishing the walls - photo I had has disappeared so I will need to sort it later.
Off with Mark tonight to Rosslyn 606 where they are working something special I believe - more when I find out what.

Thursday 17 April 2008

In a panic for a moment or two

I had just finished the previous story when the computer said it had lost it - howeverI managed to recover it OK.

Having problems with the typing - everything is dyslexic so it is taking me ages.

However - today I headed to town allegedly to do some wee jobs in the Mercat, but by the time I arrived it was not practicable to do so - plus the fact that the bits and pieces i wanted to use could not be found. Anyway - I had a wee surprise when my Uncle walter and wife Sheila arrived on spec looking for weither me or Graham and wanting their lunch . Both were looking well despite the fact Walter had had a fall recently - the fish dinner they chose was so big I had to share it between them.

Met one of my former clients from the Sportsmans at the bus stop so went and had a chat.

Listening to the radio, there was another bad smash on the M8 at the same place as yesterday, and a lorry was also blown over on the Forth Bridge ( according to Real radio it was full of aliens who escaped) but it did cause the usual chaos with the Bridge being closed and everthing diverting to Kincardine which also ground to a halt . I just cannot see why they are building a new bridge instead of a tunnel.

Headed home in time to see the lads from the roadworks packing up after a hard day sitting in their vans - 3 p.m. - not a bad shift from 8 a.m. when you consider their two tea breaks and a lunch break!! And they are not alone - I just wonder how some folks actually manage to get jobs done these days - the big surprise is that many companies cannot get apprentices to train to be as lazy as their tradesmen. Great expose on the TV today about 112 of the major building companies working a cartel to rig prices - so it will interesting to see what the DTI do to them - the bigger ones have already suffered with a fall of their share prices on the stock exchange.

Just more than a bit wabbit this evening so it is a night in with feet up - and perhaps a drink or two!!!

Have just had a call from an old friend/ collegue, Davy Broomfield , who worked with me for years, so he has not been keeping too well, but cheery as ever - full of rubbish jokes.

Big meeting with Edinburgh council in the morning.

A bit sheepish

Well this is a short story about a trip to Bonnyrigg. As I have said previously I am an animal lover and have even gone so far as to give someone a thumping for beating a dog. Many years ago while on duty and on a foot patrol in Loanhead I heard a dog squealing and saw a bloke surrounded by people who were doing nothing beating a dog with a stick. I stepped in and gave him a good thumping, however, despite the presence of many- there were no witnesses !!

Anyway, on the way to Bonnyrigg this afternoon I saw these wee chappies - 1st two were a bit wary about me watching them; their pal, the black boy he was kind of aloof; so they headed off to the bar; where Ma (despite being a scruffy sort) did the business .

Wednesday 16 April 2008

Grey haired in one day

Well, made it to 720 last night where there were 127 folks present - great turnout and a good night. my pal Campbell is desolate - he has got a job and started back today.

Sparky Mark arrived home in one piece, made it straight to The Mercat where he consumed vast quantities of Guinness - then proceeded to smell rather awful becoming an environment hazard. This may well be acceptable in the Peruvian jungle where some of the fainter hearted animals might fall from trees - but not in a city centre bar. So far I have not heard from him so he must be jet lagged and chilling out - otherwise he knows that I have some manual labour lined up for him.

Today - I mounted the steed of steel and wove my way through the morning traffic to my job in Corstorphine - made good time despite the heavy traffic. Nitin, Shazad, Ian and Dave seemed pleased to see me and the day proved interesting and fairly successful.

On the way home I ran into heavy traffic on the A720 by-pass which was the start of many hours of total chaos following a multiple car crash on the M8 at Hermiston Gait which closed both carriageways, with one person dead and several injured. I am supposed to head that way shortly to the RA at Currie, but will have to check the road reports and traffic cameras to see if anything is moving, if not , it is hardly worth going to sit in a traffic jam. Have just heard on the radio that the M/way is now open after being shut for six hours !!! just what has that cost the economy.

Ann saw the Doctor and is not due to see him for another two months - he said three, but she knew I would go balmy if she was off any longer - however her health comes first.

So - what did I do - well I ended up reinstating the walls in the bedroom, then sanding, etc, which covered the place in stoor and turned me white from head to toe from the plaster dust, but at least it is progress.

Prague all set for 5th to 8th May so I had better get my finger out or I will not be allowed to go with the Licensed Trade group., who have organised a p***up in a few breweries. Talking of which I see that Scottish and Newcastle have bought the remaining shares in the Caledonian Brewery, Edinburgh, brewers of IPA.

Big dizzy tonight is that the Rangers - Celtic game is on Setanta Sports, which makes it harder for us to see - just a big scam between Sky and Setanta, divving up these sports programmes.
Right , must go see what happens next - and as for Thursday - I will be impersonating James Bond's arch enemy - being "Odd Job" in The Mercat.

Regards to Andrea, and whoever it was who checked in from Canada this morning , along with Rob and Co in Oz, and my UK friends.

Feeling thirsty

True story and not a Real Radio wind up.

Hotel in Edinburgh recently received a massive delivery of 6000 Litres of concentrated frozen orange juice, sent up in a refrigerated van from the South of England. The driver (not Hector Brocklehurst of HB Transport) managed to get one of the junior staff to sign for the load and left before a senior member of staff arrived.
It transpires that the order should have been for 6 litres which they usually receive and which lasts for a couple of weeks.
The delivery Company will not take the stuff back, the Hotel cannot find out who placed the order, and they are looking for volunteers to fill their freezers with frozen orange juice!!!!

Went visiting Ben the Builder

A quick run out to Sterling's warehouse where we decided on a new suite - eventually, and I even had a snooze on it to test it.

On the way home popped in to see Lillian and Kenny at Ingliston as Lillian has not been well with the flu, etc.
Junior, Ben, was causing chaos - as is the normal want of little people. However, as the sun was shining Kenny and I took him out the back garden with the dogs. His dad, James arrived and after impersonating a watering can he decided to help with the erection of a new greenhouse. (Might take a while)

Two different photos

I was trying to load these and others last night but the gremlins were at work - however, two for starters this morning, or should I say one for desert.
Nice piece of chocolate fudge cake and ice cream , a la Mercat bar, and the busy boy in the corner, taken last year is my nephew Jonathon Boyd who helps Graham and me with off jobs when he has a free minute. Alternatively he is being led astray by Jamie the Chef.
Twas up early again today, snow was falling , but with my jobs done I supect that we are off once more to Tillicourty to the Sterling Furniture warehouse.

R.I.P. Flymo

Here lies one dead Power base flymo; bought 17.3.07 - "burnt out" at the tender age of 13 months on 16.4.08.
Parents - Homebase, notified but have disowned the poor thing, claiming that it was happy to seek a new home a year ago!!
Methinks I might just return it to them.

Monday 14 April 2008

I am in a real mood now - so !!

Well it was snowing early doors - but being inside we finished off the stripping - so now it is all the fidly stuff to do.
But - I received a letter from the Bank of Scotland, Mr Peter Jackson no less, Managing Director of Banking and Savings - but of course that is only a pro forma ( sent from the local branch by someone who did not have the courtesy of p.p.'ing the letter)- however, with his name on it he must therefore accept responsibility for his minions and his computers which generate pro forma letters. No doubt he will be delighted to hear from me - or if I get my way - be asked to meet me in person to discuss the contents of his letter about bank charges - or what is tantamount to highway robbery.

Then off to the hospital to see Ann's consultant, who was pleased with her progress.

Up to the Mercat for lunch and to try and do a couple of little jobs for them - but my tools had been pinched along with other bits and bobs I needed.

Call from the Princess - so Tam, thanks very much , or Joannna pass on the message that all is well and message received.

Had a call about one of the jobs I do, there was a big scare last week caused by a genuine Japanese tourist who was photographing everything that moved, plus lots which did not - he was even reprimanded at the airport due to his enthusiastic snapping.

From Grant the word is that my Samsung X - 05 laptop needs either a new hard drive ( no 4) or binned - mit has been a total nightmare since new , and I will NOT be buying Samsung again - there is enough information on the net about the faults in this model and they will not accept any responsibility.
On my way home held up for ages by temporary roadworks on the A702 - about one and a half miles of motors heading south , and when I eventually got through the unnattend roadwoks three cars heading north - just what imbiciles in Midlothian Council run these operations ?

Home - it was sunny soI had another go at cutting the grass with the flymo, but, this time the smoke was followed by flames which had to be put out with a bucket of water , but not only that it blew a fuse on my main circuit board!!! So I had to summon my neighbour Mike to come and sort things out, which he did, and was even kind enough to ply me with the wter of life, probably in an attempt to stop me having a heart attack.

Sunday 13 April 2008

To stop her moaning

Took this picture of Princess Kerrin last week during one of the rare moments when she chose to do a bit work.

nearly finished

Not managed to get this photo right - I just scanned it but could not get it to fit to size. anyway it is one of the hot air balloons which regularly take off from the field opposite the house.
I will try and load the software for the other camera which will be easier to use and save time messing about.
Today - guess what - yes we were stripping again, just about the whole day, but have nearly finished which means that I can soon make a start on preparing the walls so that the new paper can go on. Dougie the Painter popped in and he said that I did not need to line the walls - makes that easier, I should use an easyfill plaster rather than Pollyfilla -he gave me some useful tips to try and save time and effort. I have no idea what Mrs. B. will do when we run out of walls, she will probably just decide to do a room she had not planned on - better not.
Still no word from Musselburgh , so there are some chaps who I would like to hear from soon, George, Lennie and Tam being three, and two others who are entitled to remain nameless at the moment.
Sandra and William have just called from London, they are getting nowhere fast with the extension due to the terrible weather down there. On the TV this morning the weather looked not to bad for the London Marathon - those folks deserve a medal for their efforts.
Ok - I will go and fiddle about with some more software and see what happens.

Back on Track

Following my previous blog I am now back on track but not any happier - however -
This morning we had to return again to Costco and Bookers to top up supplies for The Mercat Bar and on arrival home were surprised by a visit by my Brother in Law and his wife, John and Christine, from Cambuslang who we have not seen much of for the past three years, however it was wonderful to see them again. Johnny is/ was the brother I never had so it was great to be back in his company. We all went back into the Mercat for a lovely dinner ( mine was a steak - again). Wee Jonathon - Graham's cousin arrived after his work , this boy is a grafter and any team of brickies would be proud to have him with them.
From John and Christine we learned that both Robbie and Christina are doing well, although Christina has health problems at the moment which are being investigated.

John , the gambler, had a couple of winner so the dinner was paid for compliments of William Hill.

Home where I later fell foul of Mrs B. for falling asleep during the early evening TV and wakening up thinking it was Sunday. Maybe it is !!! but bed is not far away.

Mr Grumpy

Now P.M. Saturday and feeling just a bit under the !! , not weather - but must admit to having had a few large red wines, contrary to the advice of the Government Health advisors.
I did have a tale to tell but have gotton sidetracked.
It is just getting a bit silly now, we have to watch what size of glass we drink out of in case we have too many units in one day - but that does not stop the yobbos buying thier bottles of cheap Buckfast at the supermarket and then being a real arse**** in the main street. We cannot drop litter without being spied upon and fined with the use of town centre CCTV but contractors can abuse the local refuse facilities or still go out into ,the country and fly tip. We cannot park without a ticket or we get towed away - even although our car alarm is sounding, but wardens will ignore untaxed motors.
We pay a fortune for road tax, they dig up roads, leave holes and make a bloody mess of our highways, a classic being a hole in Edinburgh dug by the Water Board which then lay unattended for months with no one near it. Nearer home, as I said months ago, Crummoch got several projects which they could obviously not service so they started them all, caused the usual road chaos and then part closed the work while they had to concentrate on finishing jobs esewhwere. The so called Ploverhall project has ground to a halt, they have removed their portaloos and tea cabins and left the road in a pitiful state, so much so that any motorcyclists have to be extra cautious. I hate to be a grump but one could complain every day about many of these so called projects but who the hell is there to listen or do anythng about it. The sad thing is that is it is not just restricted to this area it is all over, and the government / local government are supposed to be in control. In the meantime their petty "jobsworths" are out and about doing their best to interfere with small businesses.

An interesting evening

Made it to The Mercat to pick up Graham and Andy KP, and while waiting had a portion of scrambled egg ( of all things) made by the lovely Claire, assited by Duhai ( took it out the microwave), before heading down to Hollyrood to St Johns Road where No 97 were meeting.

The "Temple" is amazing, beautifully decorated, owned by No 2, and it is one of the Lodges which Robert Burns, the poet, joined while living in Edinburgh. The organ is the original and the wall mural is lovely ( photos another time when lap top is back).
The Lodge was working a Mark Degree with four candidates which was good and this was followed by a traditional meal , good old fashioned mince and tatties !! - washed down with Iron Bru of all things as I was driving.

Dropped Andy off and came home via The Bush where I checked out one of my jobs, and made it home just before Graham who was using his motor bike.

Up this morning to discover that Mrs B. has removed even more wall paper !! so I am warning the neighbours not to leave their doors open - just in case !!

Looks like it is another run to Costco and cash and carry to stock up so that the good citizens of Edinburgh and visitors can be fed at The Mercat. After that , we wait and see.

To the Hillfoots and back again

PM - now wet and misty, but we did head off to Tillicoultry up in the Hillfoots of Clackmannan where the weather was nice, currently we have hail stones.

Up early and it was my turn to be "stripping" in the livingroom, what a treat for Graham when he came down and found both Ma and Pa stripping off ( the wallpaper) - no doubt a sight for tired eyes.

Spoke to the HBOS Manager at Penicuik, " knock , knock , anyone in" was about the response I received, what a waste of time. However the Evening News did speak to me about the DVLA thing and are going to investigate.

E Mail from Rob and Caitlin, she is working hard, and Rob has got a job with a company who build supermarkets all over Oz, so he could end up being a travelling man, well done.

I see Andrea has been peeking at the Blog - nice to know she is taking an interest.

Up at Hillfoots went to visit the Sterling Furniture warehouse to look for new suits and chairs, what a wonderful place - you could spend all day there. En route i was surprised how much work has been done on the new bridge over the River Forth at Kincardine, none of your shortest way over the water, this is spectacular, and misses out the whole of Kincardine Village and comes out way north, massive short cut which will make a great difference. It was not possible to stop due to the traffic to try and get a photo.

In a rush now as I am off to meet Graham and Andy KP to go to the meeting at No 97 tonight - if I am lucky I may get a wee bite to eat at The Mercat.

Money grabbing , thieving government

Obviously rather peed off tonight, had a long and frustrating day.
Started off heading to town via the cash and carry to stock up The Mercat Bar, and then along to John Lewis PLC to spend time sitting on chair after chair to find one we liked . The phrase "I cannot decide if I am indecisive" springs to mind!! From there via Leather world and Reids at Loanhead - surprised to see on offer a beautiful three and two seater leather suit, second hand, but the pair were only £199. BUT it looks like we will be venturing further afield.

Home and an E mail from Sparky Mark who has now survived the Inca trail and is off for three days into the middle of the jungle - obviously to commune with nature - but be warned he says he will be back on Tuesday.

In my mail I received a fixed penalty from DVLA for not having my car taxed and/or , either not filling in a SORN - went mental but checked and car tax had expired in January so for two months I have been oblivious to the fact - and not one of the many parking enforcers has noticed, despite checking the car umpteen times. Anyway went down to the post office where the lady said that i was one of many in the same boat - but I had taken the wrong forms. Back i went later and I said i was surprised because I had not received a reminder - she said that most of the other drivers had said the same, here in Penicuik, Loanhead, Bonnyrigg and Gorebridge, and that DVLA had apparently lost a disc with the information !!! BUT they were blaming the Post for the lost letters - Q. How many posties do we know that will go through their mail bags and take out DVLA letters, and in four different areas. SO, there will be a letter going to my M.P. David Hamilton requesting that he make enquiries and also a call to the Edinburgh Evening News who were constantly engaged this evening.

I also got a cheque back from the bank as it had not been signed !! OK, so I never noticed but the teller should have when I handed it in - yet another black mark for H.B.O.S., Penicuik, whose performance of late has been awful, so tomorrow one bank Manager will be talking to me.

Heard from Musselburgh, it would appear that Mr. George F. fell foul of the law last night, being in a bad mood when he headed home - and was asked to accompany officers for a chat !!
Princess Kerrin has had her hair cut - photo to follow.
Made it to the Lodge in Council at Esk 42 Dalkeith, good meeting , small group but all keen and it was interesting - next up with be to 97 St Mary's Operative, Friday night.

Mrs B. not so good today - had to get in touch with the Dr. as her headaches have been causing concern - but she will not take it easy as instructed.

Wednesday 9 April 2008

Photo's at last

Need a wee seat as I am aching all over, so much for hard work being good for you.
Made it to B & Q where i bought my new sander, with a little bag to catch the dust - NOT- there is still as much flying about, and I had not put covers down.
On the way back I spotted and stopped for a blether to my mate Dan Graham, just along the road from Hillend ski slope - good to have a chat in person as most of my recent contact has been on the phone or by E mail. He was looking well, and is off for a week in the sun soon. The photo of the ski slope reminded me of the time,, many years ago, possibly about 1967 when they were just starting to lay the nylon matting for the artificial slope. This was part of my beat being attached to Loanhead, and one night shift, my colleague decided to try and drive the landrover up the mat to see how far up the hill he could get. However the motor just skidded on the nylon and we slid backwards leaving a couple of big gouges as evidence. A couple of days later when I was over in daytime one of the staff was telling me about " some idiot trying to drive up the mat"" !!!! I was a regular visitor to the centre which has been busy for years, and the view from the top of the chair lift, on a clear day, is spectacular.
On the top road, A702, near to Boghall Farm there is this odd camera set up at the side of the road and I have no idea at all what it is for, about thirty yards away are the two blue cameras on a pole which have been there for years.
Back home, found Mrs B. now "stripping" in the dinette - what a mess (both her and the dinette!!) , but she eventually uncovered this piece of graffiti which she put on the wall about twenty five years ago - We were having a birthday party for Graham and his "little chums" who were in for grub and games. We at the same time were decorating so there were no carpets and the wall was bare, ideal for a hoard of little chaps - so Ann just wrote this message on the wall. It caused great consternation with some of the other parents who were not happy when their little angels wanted the same at their parties.
Had a phone call from our new UNISON man this afternoon as J.R. is quite ill after surgery for a back injury. He was very nice and has managed to get the ball rolling again so another meeting is immanent.
Was sent to Tesco for some goods, papers, etc, and met some folks to chat to. Came back and as the weather was nice I decided to cut the grass, however, my flymo, 13 months old, decided to die - smoke belching from the motor and no power. It is yet another example of the "expired warranty chip" which I am sure is installed in many items so when you do not take an extended warranty it automatically breaks down or dies after the year. I have the date of purchase in my files so I will be having a wee word with Homebase about it.

Samsung X-05 Rubbish

Morning - well the lap top is still ill - suffering from the internal / infernal virus, but when Tam went to got it sorted it would not boot up . From the depths of his own system he discovered that is a common fault with this model as a number of others have suffered the same and like me are onto their third hard drives, etc. Trying the XP restore this morning but I cannot speak MDOS I got stuck again. BUT time and persistence will pay off - otherwise it is into the big grey bucket.
Tam in the meantime has suffered from a rare problem with his computer, when it conked out he found that his rabbit had tried to eat through the power supply !! Not such a daft rabbit as it chewed through the low voltage side.

Back to real life - I see that Mark is still in Peru - and should be due back this weekend. I have had a nice comment from another reader "Projectores" on Blogspot, but hope I am excused for not going into that site , just in case. - meantime that is.

I popped in the to see Shezad and Ritin yesterday at Corstorphine as they have some work for me next week - they were in fine fettle winding up one of the tutors.

Handed in £25 donation to Dr barnardo's charity which the folks at the Sportsmans had kindly put in their collection box - well done.

At Musselburgh , they have identified the eejit, - sh--bag who tried to throw the sign through the pub window early hours of yesterday morning- he was an occasional customer in the pub but it looks like he was an associate of the torags dwelling along the street - who apparently have a hearing coming up at the licensing board soon - that should be fun. Yet another Punch tavern has shut down in Prestonpans as the lessees ran out of money.

I hear that Mr. George F. was being his usual nuisance yesterday - probably rained off, had a good drink and began to be the bully boy as his usual requests were turned down.

There was a serious stabbing outside the Catholic church in Newbigging just up from the Sportsmans, middle of the day on Monday afternoon - but two men have been arrested who were in JT's taxi at some stage, the victim is recovering in hospital.

Spent the afternoon filling in cracks in the wall with Polyfilla, and only have another square mile or so to do !!! (in the house) , and as i finish one wall Mrs B. strips the paper off another wall - which is just like the Forth Railway Bridge.

Eventually escaped and made it to Tranent last night for a RA meeting - only 23 present, no workings but the had a wee blether , and some nice egg pieces later.

Off to B & Q soon to get a new sander - and use my Diamond Card for the 10% discount !!
The old joke is What is 100 yards long and smells of urine ? - The queue for the checkout at B & Q on Diamond day!!.

Will eventually get more photos online.

In response to

Morning ,
looks like I need to respond to some comments - I try to be brief at times but that can lead to bits of information not being clear.

To David, up there in the highlands, stilltaking in stong wines and spirits, good to know you are with us bro. No - it was Bro. Willie Allan from Bonnyrigg 720, formerly from the West of Scotland, and not the man from 44 who I beleive is still hale and hearty.

To mini Minix - i hope you and the other girls are not wearing your "bling" in the bright sunshine, - it will dazzle the motorists - and yes, I do think it was you who made your driving instructor crack up.

Thanks Grant for the offer of help - do not worry you wil get your turn in due course.

Up early doors as I could not sleep due to a bloody sore shoulder and neck - not sure if Ann has been hitting me in my sleep for snoring - but as I have not had any falling down liquids in the past three nights I do not think that was the problem. A good hearty massage would probably help - but likely to cause a heart attack.

Today - frosty, with snow on the hills - I worry about these new born lambs in this weather, genuinly.

Off to town later as I actually have some more work to do, then out again tonight for another RA meeting. Last night's at the Conclave was their annual installation which was good, followed by a meal however I headed home and left the rest to much their way into the night.

OK - enough for the moment - regards

Monday 7 April 2008

Still got problems.

Monday p.m. Following yesterdays pantomime with the lap top this machine automatically ran AVG this morning which took an hour !!, Fortunately I had other things to do so I got on with them - but so far I have been unable to get an anti virus into the lap top.

Good job some folks read this blog - I managed to get help for a job today.

Unable to get the photos onto the machine so I will have to change cameras meantime.

Into town this morning to see Vanessa, partner of Edwardo who is still in Argentina, where due to the national strike there are serious problems with getting fresh food into the shops , etc. But he is Ok and doing fine. Vanessa had a wee leak which upset her neighbour , however, looks like it is cured meantime, but when Sparky gets back from Peru we will send him to "search and destroy", or upset the neighbour again.
To Scot Cuppola's for new light fittings, up to The Mercat to drop off packages , had my scrambled egg on toast and then out to Mortnhall for the funeral of Willie Allan, a member of the Lodge, Chapter and OES. Very good turn out with a lovely kletter read out, sent from his daughter in law and family in New Zealand

Heard yesterday that Michelle C. is to get a new driving instructor as the first one took a nervous breakdown and is off work for a while.

Paul Q. had his birthday yesterday, now 45 - looking as though he had a hard paper round. Kristen had baked a cake!!! for him and had extra nibbles and treats in the pub for the customers.

Mr Frizzell is conspicuous by his absence, trust he is not in that big suitcase I sent down and floating out in the Firth of Forth at the entrance to the River Esk - from the sound of things he might well end up like the lady in Arbroath. The sad thing is that the poor soul represented everything George hates - She was female; she was foreign; she was a hard worker; and she was saving her money to send home.

Need to dash - heading off to yet another masonic meeting tonight, Conclave, which is different !!

Sunday 6 April 2008

Lap top problems - read this note and remember

had a good day at Musselburgh lunch with the girls and then home after dropping stuff off at the Mercat. HOWEVER - some dirty rotton swine has managed get into and infect the lap top which was apparantly sending out all sorts of junk till I pulled the plug.

I will have to use this maching for all messages meantime and E mails will - if I remember have PC on the top - so if the do not , then do not open.

In the meqntime ,

Thanks to the girls and folks for their presents, sorry to those who could not make it , and thanks to Joanne for her recent comments.

Wouls Simon give me a call please.

Cheers

Getting a bit forgetful !!

Now Sunday a.m. and I am struggling, looking out at the snow, to try and remember what happened on Saturday.

Weather was fine but my plans were scuppered when I had to get organised early and do a swift run into town , so having changed for my afternoon meeting I just took a run round by Bonnyrigg where I went to see Grant @ Photogenix and get some of the previous nights pictures printed off. His misses had a sore one when a set of French boules fell off a shelf while she was in a cupboard, landed on the top of her head and knocked her out cold. Fortunately she is now recovering - but as Grant said, you could not miss her for a couple of days - she had a bag of frozen peas on top of a bump the size of a policeman's helmet!"!

From Grant I nipped into the lounge bar at 720, where some of the chaps were attempting to recover from the previous evenings dinner!!

On over to Newbattle for a meeting of the Preceptory of St Bernard De Clairveaux, their annual installation followed by a lecture on the battle of Rosslyn which took place on 23rd February 1303, not far from here and where nearly many thousands of English soldiers were killed and left in the fields. one of the local fields is still known as Shinbone field after hundreds of bones were ploughed up at the turn of the Century. It was only recently that a memorial was set up on the site.
By the time I left for home the first wave of snow had fallen so the roads were a bit dicy.

Home, fed, nice bit of salmon with a beautiful sauce which Claire had sent out for us, then changed and into The Mercat, supposedly to work !! - but after a chat to Graham , Sir Christopher, Claire and Jamie , when I was given all the jobs that need doing I headed home and got my feet up.

At this precise moment in time there is a total whiteout , outside , so I am hoping it clears in time for me to head to Musselburgh where i am supposed to be going out for lunch with the Staff from the Sportsmans.

Saturday 5 April 2008

Got home early

Much to everyones surprise I arrived home early , about 11.40 p.m. having come up the road on the bus - I did describe it as a cattle float but that would be an an insult to cattle who are better behaved and have bigger brains than the are--oles who were on the bus. Even earlier I had to take to task youngsters who were trying to vandalise the bus shelter when I was going to Bonnyrigg.

Apart from that , we had an exciting day, playing at "asian shop keepers" as there were bargains galore at the cash and carry who were clearing out old stock. Seems that the word got out yesterday and they came in their droves for the bargains. Ann and I were there twice, in between I had to clear a choked toilet in the ladies loo- but fortunately did not start to do the dishwashing thereafter!!
Nice afternoon here but no chance to sunbathe !!

There was a murder in Bonnyrigg overnight, discovered today but the husband has been arrested.

Generally I get the feeling , like lots of folks that there is a breakdown of law and order, probably because of all these civil Liberty types, and it is about time we went back to zero tolerance - opened up the pit shafts and marched a few hundred or so off the plank.

Back to my night out - it was excellent , and I could have stayed there till the wee small hours, but then I would have had a long walk and been ill in the morning. the meal was nice, but the steak rubbish compared to The Mercat, infact it was rubbish compared to most places!!, however the entertainment was great with everyone having to either tell jokes or sing - benefit tonight was that Alex McBeth RWM was playing the organ and his brother in law Frankie Allison was singing.
I see that our lot in power are now publishing the expenses claimed by MP's which is tantamount to total theft - abusing the system, etc. It is no wonder they are queuing for jobs as MP's ; MEP's " etc it is the gravy train, screw the system and make your own rules.
Till tomorrow

Friday 4 April 2008

So much for a rest day

Have been chasing my tail; since I got up - and am now running out of time before I head off to get the bus and go to the office bearers dinner at Bonnyrigg, 720. So unfortunately no time for notes today.

Regards.

Thursday 3 April 2008

last day at Muss - new horizons

Obviously the Rangers - Sporting game is terrible otherwise I would still be watching it.
Boob with the photos, Jeremy (Heiniken man) and Graham should have been down the story a bit, but I found out too late. Through Jeremy we bought tickets at ancharity auction which took us to the Rangers v Barcelona game where the UEFA people made a right mess of the hospitality at Ibrox and the Rangers folks would accept no responsibility - I am still waiting on a response from the caterers especially.
Made it to Musselburgh early , 7 a.m. to start preparing for the handover to Kristen. Met Ian Campbell at the bus stop off to see to his grandchildren who have been reading the blog for him. He has promised to pop up to see me at "The Mercat" - I thought all had forgotten as no one appeared till after 9 a.m. and that was our stocktaker (Russell). Kristen along with her Ma and Pa appeared ( see me posing with them) Anyway - got stuff sorted and everything happened as it should do. In the interim some of the guys appeared, Jackie, Jess, Keith etc, who were heading off abroad for a golf weekend, I did apologise to Keith for last nights episode with Geoge F. Also wee George the artist, retired lecturer in fine arts ( see my photo) and an artist but now hampered by his arthritis - turns out that the laid back Graham Allan who helps us at the Mercat Bar is an old friend who only recently met him in the Gordons Arms, Rose Street. So in the end I headed home via the Bush to visit SAC for one of my own jobs where Alan and Arlene were busy as usual . On reaching home I found that I was then needed to go to Costco for the Mercat, either Claire or Jamie being a bit dippit and need exrtra supplies.

Costco and then into the Mercat where, as a wee treat (now having finished my work experience at Musselburgh) I decided to stay for tea, and with Claire in the kitchen I had no option but to go for a nice steak on a sizzzzzling platter with the trimmings, and Ann followed her meal with a nice sweet prepared by Duhai, ( you will have to sort out the photos yourself.)

We had a visit to the bar from Jeremy and the Heiniken team (see the poser with Graham) doing a tour of the Heiniken outlets, and I then managed to get our own girls to give me a smile and cuddle.

In the course of the day I had an E mail from Rob and Caitlain who are now getting organised back in the upside down world with Caitlain now at work as a nurse again - which was obviously her job till our NHS decided to make a " cock up" of things and deprive her of her livelihood, Robbie is still being laid back and indecisive and waiting for the right job to appear, probably as a beer taster in a brewery - so with his fellow koala huggers he is about 1 million'th down the line.

Sparky has also checked in and obviously has not been eaten by Incas or other south American types.

Cookie and Samantha appeared back from their last few days sojourn in London, but I am not sure yet what their plans are.

Local news, they have identified the lady who lost the heid on the beach at Arbroath - cut up in Brechin by the look of things - Ann has suggested it might well be murder - so much for a Cluedo expert !!

The joke - What do the Starship Enterprise and toilet paper have in common?
a. They have both visited Uranus looking for klingons!! ( Sorry Brian - I hope your dughter gets this one)

Wee response late on from Canada where the photo of Jackie and ther layabouts had been received by the (un) intelli gent services. That is, anyone who thinks celtic are a team and not an ancient nation!!!
My comment of worry for the day was with regard to Real radio and Robin Galloway
doing an off take of Gunjid Singfh - a call centre operator for BT - the lady he calle d was prepared to curse and swear at the operator "Mr Singh) but apolgoised when she knew she was on air - I think he is treading on thin ice using this persona for his wind ups.

I presume from the background silence that the Rangers game was a draw.

Wednesday 2 April 2008

It could have been a better day

Last full day at The Sportsmans, which should have been a carefree experience, pleasant with a bit of a laugh - however that's was expecting just too much for Musselburgh.

Arrived and was about to park when my favourite Traffic warden appeared soI had to seek a space elsewhere.

Chick had already started on his breakfast, Bottle of Bud, which was followed by a tea break of 2+ vodka ; then a light refreshement - 2+ vodka; and for lunch another 2+ vodka ; this despite the fact that he had not had anything to eat - so he got a row , but that meant nothing.

Moving on, we then heard that last nights carry on in The Stand was not a case of fooling about, but a good going barny with gary the owner getting assaulted, yet again. However as we no , no police were called.

But we then hear that the pub was broken into during the nightand property stole - being rather dubious about the incident, BUT , it turns out there are two supects, one local and the other from further afield and the Police are hot on their trail.

The assault on Geirge robertson took place outside his house when he apparantly disturbed someone trying to break in - irreveland as he is seriously crippled and it should bnever have happened. BUT - George appeared at the pub for a pint, sporting some bruises and a black eye - he was eventually sent home (sober) to await the Police.
Next appears the Gypsy girls, along with nmother and they were trying to sell "gold" rings, being a pest and I am sure she was delighted to get her photo taken - probably not as much as Paul and harry , seen here with Jackie MacNamara.
I had a phone call from Paul a few days ago trying to trace Jackie on behalf of his friend Harry whose sister used to to stay next door to Jackie as children. So today they met in the Bar and had a chat about old times as they are over here on a visit from Burlington, Ontario.
Had a few bodies in to see whoi was taking oiver but as usual it was a case of " you must be giving it away to day", etc, looking for a free drink, and not even regulars.
One of the professional "bandit" players came in - these guys can read the sequences on the bandit and know when the jackpots are about to drop.
Anyway - as I said I was looking forward to a bit of a laugh , however, my bosom pal George, after his 10th pint or so started to be a pain in the bum - so that was that, I just packed up as soon as Kerrin came in and headed up the road.
I know that Keith reads this so please pass on my best to Jimmy and Brian and my apologies for baling out so quick.
Brian's daughter has asked for a couple of jokes :
1. What goes quack, quack, boom? A duck in a minefield.
2. What is black and white, has a beak, likes fish and is very noisy ? A penguin with a drum kit.
3. What did one eye say to the other eye? Between you and me something smells.
