Tuesday night and a few days since I last wrote, however, no point in writing, just for the sake of it !!
Fairly steady weekend at the Mercat Bar, working every day. The town is now busy with tourists, but we find that on a nice day they tend to want to walk further into the City before stopping for a meal, while on the wetter days they are happy to stop off and hope it fairs up a bit. Never the less we have had some nice folks in from Finland, Singapore, Canada , Las Vegas, lovely group from Madrid ( photo) etc - all very interesting to talk to.
My daily checking of earthquakes was interesting, over 110 in the past 24hrs in the Los Angeles / Southern California area, including the big one at 4.30 a.m. which stopped the baseball in San Diego for a short time. Certainly well shaken in that area.
We could have been mistaken here today in thinking that the Icelandic volcano was up and running again today as we were covered in ash, but it was the blokes cutting back the trees down the street Massive conifers and a lot of them - instead of chipping them they just set them on fire and covered all the neighbouring houses, cars, washing, etc with ash - just a bit inconsiderate, but that is about par for the course for the residents of that house who runs a couple of these stretch limos.
Checking on my tracker and I am getting lots of hits from people checking out the so called "NATIONAL CRIME RESEARCH COUNCIL" the sales pitch by SAS alarms. Obviously trying hard to get people to buy their systems, or accept the offer of a free alarm, or an alarm for £1, etc BUT there is no such thing as a free alarm - they get their money in other ways, service contaracts, connection costs, etc..
Advice is the same - if you want an alarm you can look through the "Yellow Pages" , make sure that the Company is NACOSS approved, get at least two if not three comparable quotes from reputable companies, and if in doubt phone the local Police Community Safety Officers and get their assistance. For other advice try the EPIC website ( Ex Police in Industry and Commerce) who have a register of security specialists who will also give unbiased assistance.
I see that the TRAMWORKS saga with Edinburgh City Council is hitting the headlines again with threats that the contact with the German firm, Billfinger Berger might be torn up - it reminded me of the fact that I have met one of the German Staff who has been flying back and forward every week from Germany, living in a nice hotel here, good salary, etc. and all part of the "free for all", piggies in the trough.
As for the Edinburgh City Council, our five year "storm in a teacup" rumbles on, with the Management now suffering from selective memory loss, running true to form and attempting a cover up to conceal what is nothing less than apparent bullying and incompetence by several senior members of Staff - not the arena here to discuss matters, and in any case they would love to stick a gagging order on me - so speculate in the meantime.
I suspect, from the amount of football on the TV that the World Cup has kicked off, ITV have seemingly got off on the wrong foot with their Commentary team, Adrian Childs ( ex One Show - where he was over rated) and even sticking adverts on during the match - prime time chancers /
Thai Dinner night in The Mercat on Saturday night if aneyone is interested.
