The Strand, London

From the hotel along to the Temple tube station I passed this plaque marking the home of William Lilly, 1602, an astrologer and occultist. Fourteen years before the Great Fire of London took place he wrote and predicted that it would occur, so when it did, there were many who believed that he had done it deliberately to get publicity and he was put on trial - however he was found NOT GUILTY. His works are still subject to regular reprints and are one the "bibles" of astrologists.

The Church , St Mary's on The Strand, sits on the site of an original church known as the Church of the Innocents, which was written about as far back as 1222 but which was pulled down in 1540.
The current church was built, commencing in 1714, and it is said that Bonnie Prince Charlie joined the church in 1750 when he became an Anglican.
