Time to catch up again -

Saturday evening, sun shines in Penicuik, but only just - our own little eco system keeps us on the hop – between umbrellas and fleeces, our Indian summer is no more. It is a bit rough on the bedding plants who are in and out like yo yo’s
Friday past, so much for having a day off, it was back to the Mercat to help with the lunches, and with the rugby supporters arriving in the City for the Rugby League festival at Murrayfield we were busy.

But all things being equal I had to head home and then down to Bonnyrigg with Mrs B to join in the entertainment taking place at the Lodge where RA 500 was running a fund raising night. The evening, organised by Douglas Neil and Ian Robertson was very good, they had done a lot of work, sold enough tickets to fill the hall and had a disco and a Cabaret act with Wilson Woodrow, a member of the current Drifters group. I would suspect that he was very good but as we never saw his faster second act I am not able to comment.

It was just a pity that several of the people who bought tickets did not turn up, and in addition a number of the members of 500 and friends were at The Grand Superintendent of Edinburgh’s Annual Dinner.

Up early and into the Mercat where we busy all day. There were quite a few of the visitors who were returning for a second year having found us during last year’s tournament.

Disruption once again in the street outside, however it looks as though we are going to have the roads returned to near normal for a period while the Edinburgh City Council people meet and negotiate with the tram folks - but we will need to wait and see if the bookies have it right!! Odds at 3/1 that the trams will NEVER run.
We met the Steward from the Scots Guards club at Haymarket and he was saying that despite the fact there were no workings taking place for the past two weeks he has had up to fourteen vans parked outside the club , using the road as a personal car park when it could have been opened up to the normal traffic.

Mrs B. was out on her travels once again and ended up as usual in the Standing Order looking for Archie the Pole Dancer who made it home despite the volcanic ash cloud.
BUT – there was a bit of an incident when, on a signal a gang of Hibs casuals all got to their feet and started chanting football slogans which caused a bit of an upset - these idiots just give genuine football supporters a bad name. It is difficult to understand how two sets of football supporters cannot get on, yet we had supporters from fourteen different ruby teams in one place with no trouble. I suppose therefore that it was only just that Hearts beat Hibs 2 – 1 today.

Mega problems in the Gulf of Mexico with this massive oil slick caused by an explosion rupturing a deep oil pipe and likely to cause an ecological disaster. This will have major implication for any future underwater drilling - BUT in a conspiratorial frame of mind, what if this had been caused a terrorist group ???

Lead up to the election, Gordon Brown not having much luck with a rubber necker losing control and crashing into a bus shelter while Mr B. was doing his thing – the funniest part of it was the look Alistair Darling gave Gordon Brown when it happened. One thing with these public debates is that more and more people seem to be taking a greater interest in this forthcoming election – might even get a bigger turnout than usual.

No word from Sir Christopher, Tam, Miss Talk a lot and the squad in Spain, so they are either enjoying themselves or are locked up. Anyway we do miss them.
