Long day behind the wheel- to be repeated next week again

I think that the term "Fair trockled" might be an apt description of how I am feeling after the day's trial and tribulations. Up and Off at 4.30 a.m., rain and wind and about 7 C - however as I headed West to Glasgow the skies cleared and the temperature dropped. Into Glasgow, and then southwards on the A74 and into the "eye of the storm" - high winds and rain which turned into sleet for a while.
Meantime, on the radio there were comments on the news about the ongoing drought in England and the possibility of water shortages well into next year - did not look like that to me as I could see acres of the Border farmland under water from swollen streams .
Onto the M6, making good time, and fortunately the major hold ups were on the Northbound carriageway of the M6 from J's 19 -21 where a lorry had crashed and was blocking three lanes.
Into and out of Risley at the toot, onto the M62 to Manchester - again I was lucky, there was about a ten mile queue of traffic on the opposite lane on the ring road. Up and over the trans Pennine where the reservoirs were still low, and fairly rapidly into Wetherby. Again, in and out and then Northwards again to Scotch Corner - getting fed up with miles of speed controls on the various roads all controlled by these overhead average speed cameras - what a nuisance (understatement).
Onto the A66 which I have not been on for a very very long time so I was surprised how quickly I covered the fifty miles to Penrith and back onto the M6 for Glasgow.
Today it was not the white van men who were bugging me, but as in the past young ladies in wee cars bouncing along at high speed and ignoring all and every speed limit. Good job they never got caught by the Camera van on the M6.
Made it to and through Glasgow again, and then homewards with a final tally of 599.8 miles for the days run - Chancellor willbe rubbing his hands when he gets all the tax money from the petrol I used - and not a very clever carbon footprint.
Considerable controversy on the radio today after Jeremy Clarkson's comments on "The One Show" last night about how he would have the striking public sector (UNISON) workers taken out and shot !!! Taken out of context when he was being his usual tongue in cheek, outspoken self, little wonder he has jetted out the country.
I missed last night's episode of "the Frozen Planet", with Richard Attenburgh and his excellent team - again there appears to be a bit of controversy as the last episode of this programme, which is shown worldwide, is not to be screened in the USA - the final episode is about the effects of Global Warming - and for some unknown reason it is being blocked.
The cut price bargain web site "Groupon" is also taking serious flak - several companies who have signed up for their promotion have gone bust - At the end of the day, no matter how well a business does/ or does not do, Groupon still makes money.
I said months ago that I was not happy with the concept, I think that it is more detrimental than beneficial.

Tomorrow is another day - as they say, and we are off to the Trades Hall, Glasgow for the X-mas lunch meeting of the 49 Wine and Whiskey Club, menu looks good - so it could be a fun day!!
