Monday and shovels are the order of the day.

Still dealing Monday were the Bar was busy with the Harriers and all the football fans who were being treated to three matches, Rangers v Celtic which ended up as a 1 - 1 draw but in reality rangers were very lucky not to be hammered well and truly. Next it was Leeds v Manchester United and Leeds won kind of upsetting the form books. Finally our local derby match between Hearts and Hibs (Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian). Good game - great excitement with Hearts having a player red carded and final score of 1 - 1.

Weather had not improved so it was a rather dodgy run home on treacherous roads, covered in snow and sadly being hampered by inexperienced drivers who should have stayed at home.
Roads had not been gritted as the Council stocks had run out.

New day dawneth, Monday, which is a public holiday here in Scotland, but the buses were running, no snow last night - thank goodness.
Not at work so it was a healthy morning out in the fresh air digging out the car, clearing paths , etc. I measured the snow at 10.5 inches in the back garden which was bad enough but not as bad as some have had. My neighbours are struggling a bit with the back lane blocked and no chance of either a snow plough or salt/grit - BUT the council have new supplies today and are now doing their best to get things moving. It is about twenty five years since we had a spell like this - even the River Esk is freezing over down by Vallyfield in some of the stiller pools.

Couple of bits on U Tube of cars in difficulty on black ice in locations in England - terrible carnage of cars, it is no wonder our insurance premiums are so high.

I managed to hear my Susan Boyle CD at long last, she is marvellous, and with sales at 1.4m plus looks like beating all records. It is a shame that she is going to have to move away from her family home which is now being targeted by some of the mindless local yobs who are vandalising the house when she is not there - it is time time that we introduced boot camps, National Service or just dropped these neds down an old disused mine shaft !!

The highest building in the world, the Burj Dubai, at 2684 ft, opens today - obviously a fantastic feat of engineering but there is no way I would ever be likely to be that high in the sky, except in an aeroplane.

So, another cold night. some snow forecast - with possibly another two weeks before we get a milder spell. Tricky Ricky @ Pilot of The Road made contact by E mail and I found that he and the family are out in Orlando, where the weather is not too clever.
