Some local history

About one and a half miles from our house is the site of the battle of Rullion Green which took place in 1666.
The photo's show the grave stone which was later erected in 1738, surrounded by a fence, then a commemerative plaque, and finally the forth photo is taken at the grave looking east about one mile to the site of Castlew Fort which is an old Iron age fort dating from 300 BC to 67 BC and is one of five in the immediate vicinity.

The inscription on the Covenanters Grave reads.
"Here and near to this place lyes the Rev. John Crookshank and Mr Adrian McCormack, Ministers of the Gospel and about forty other true Covenantered Prespyterians who were killed in this place in their own inocent self defence and defence of the covenanted work of reformation by Thomas Dalziel of Bins upon the 23rd of November 1666."
An interesting point is that the current Tam Dalziel of Bins is a member of the House of Lords in the UK Parliament, still living in the same house of Bins near to Linlithgow, West Lothian.

Stuart,
Great post on the local history. Us folks in America are quite interested in the history of the "old" country. Loved the pictures as well. all the best.
