A day in the pub

It is now several days since I worked a full shift in The Sportsmans, and today was the day.

Down for 10 a.m., as the place was cleanand tidy, Chick have been in doing the business during the early hours. All set up and doors open on the note of 11 p.m. ( Town hall clock). fairly quiet morning, Rob and Ian were in for their usual tipples and a wee chat, hard for me to hear at times with music in the background, other folks talking and quiet speakers.

Anyway the day went well, got a few jobs done, and had everything organised by the time Rob appeared at 4.p.m.
Keith (Hi there), our resident computer expert has been reading this "blog" along with Brian's good lady Janet - so they were abreast of all our goings on. Keith must get fed with me as I am always asking him about the many "gremlins" which keep appearing in this lap top. Brian is our TV expert, he has all the TV's sussed and the various remote controls so when one of the staff get muddled Brian sorts it all out.

Came home the back road via Whitecraig and Dalkeith, now two lots of temp traffic lights but massive changes in the roadworks around the new Dalkeith by pass.

Controvesy - with the increase in violence, highlight being the murder of the 11 yr old Ryees Jones in Liverpool, and general street disorder, has the pendulum not swung far to far in favour of the criminal and not the victim. The so called European Bill of Human Rights has done nothing but cause us problems.
There was another serious assault in The Stand, Musselburgh, last night with a 50 + man being struck in the face with a glass or bottle, assaulted by a well known local youth who has apparantly just gone completely off the rails.

Mobile phones - not just the use by drivers behind the wheel, there are many different types of hands free kits available. But see more and more often workmen downing tools to take calls when they should be working, this morning it was a bucket motor (again) with one man standing along the street chatting on the phone and the motor with driver and colleague sitting idle waiting for him.

We are going to be hard pushed next week, Claire, Chef is off to Arran with ma, grandad, brother Graham, sister in law and baby, Hope she has made the pies before she leaves.

Time to break.
